Montalvo Center participates in mobilization day for the protection of the Central Mountain Range

Dajabón, Dominican Republic. The Juan Montalvo SJ Center for Reflection and Social Action, from the Dominican section of the Society of Jesus, participated alongside social, environmental, campesino, community, religious, academic, and productive organizations from the Northwest region in a mobilization day in defense of water, life, and the preservation of the Central Mountain Range, recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.
The journey included an ecumenical celebration, a press conference, and an ecological walk through the main streets of Dajabón, with the participation of representatives from different provinces of the country committed to the protection of the Common Home.
As part of the activity, the organizations delivered a letter addressed to the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, in which they express their concern about the concessions and permits granted to mining projects in the Northwest region and request the formation of an independent technical commission to evaluate their potential impacts on water sources, agricultural production, and biodiversity.
With this participation, the Montalvo Center reaffirms its commitment to the defense of common goods, the promotion of citizen dialogue, and the construction of a development model that guarantees the protection of the environment and the well-being of communities.
